Yorkshire Brethren Society

Welcome to the Yorkshire Brethren Society

Welcome to the Yorkshire Brethren Society website.

It is my pleasure, as Chairman, to welcome you and to thank you for visiting us.

The Yorkshire Brethren Society exists to support retired priests from the three Yorkshire dioceses of Hallam, Middlesbrough and Leeds. Through fellowship, friendship and practical support, we seek to honour the faithful ministry these priests have offered over many years and to ensure they remain valued, connected and supported within the life of the Church.

As part of this support, the Society is pleased to provide an annual Christmas grant to all retired priests who are members of the Yorkshire Brethren Society - a simple expression of gratitude, fellowship and continuing care.

Retirement is not the end of vocation but a new season of life and service. Our aim is:

  • encourage friendship, maintain connections
  • remind our retired clergy that their contribution to the church continues to be deeply appreciated

With every good wish and blessings.

HISTORY

Founded in the year of Our Lord 1660, The Yorkshire Brethren Society stands as a venerable work of mercy within the Church, offering spiritual and material support to our faithful priests in the Dioceses of Hallam, Leeds, and Middlesbrough. At a time when so many of our clergy reach retirement or face infirmity, this Society ensures that they are not forgotten, but honoured and cared for, as true servants of Christ and His Church.

At present, the Society humbly supports priests, whose years of service have nourished the faithful throughout Yorkshire. This sacred work is sustained through the generosity of the laity, and I warmly invite you to consider becoming a Benefactor of the Yorkshire Brethren Society.

For a contribution of just £50, Benefactors are enrolled in this spiritual fraternity. In gratitude and as a sign of our communion in Christ, each Benefactor will have five Holy Masses offered either during life or after death, as they prefer. Moreover, they will share perpetually in over 200 Masses offered each month by the Society’s priest members—a profound spiritual gift and a testament to the unity of the Body of Christ.

Let us together continue this noble tradition of love, honour, and support for those who have given their lives in the service of the Gospel.
